Date Shakes, Dripping, and Design Decisions!
Quick update on our progress since December; We had our grown kids visit for the holidays, although we didn’t have bedrooms and bathrooms ready, we made do with fluffy air mattresses near the fireplace, very cozy and warm. It was wonderful to spend time with the kids; I miss them already. The addition is moving along slooooowly, partly because of the winter weather, and partly because, well, I really don’t know why. As I sit here typing this, the rain is pouring down, not only outside, but into our kitchen too! More of a drip than a pour. Above the kitchen is where the addition ties into the clubhouse. The crew has it mostly dried in but until we get a new roof, we will have occasional leaking. Greg is ready to go up there and do it himself. Hopefully once the weather improves so will the pace. We have more family visiting next month, pretty sure it still won’t be ready. We offered them our bedroom and we could sleep on the air mattress, but they decided to book a hotel, I don’t blame them. It is somewhat encouraging to walk (climb the ladder!) to the upstairs; the Grandkids room is the first room you come too, Greg will make bunkbeds for The Grands, and I plan on a little reading nook under the dormer. Next to the Grandkids room is the guest bath, then the Guest bedroom, then Greg’s office. Every room has a beautiful view, I think it may be my favorite part! Inside the Clubhouse things are progressing nicely! The Master bath is almost finished, we have yet to order the glass shower barn door, but it’s on the list. The water closet area is mostly unfinished; it is going to double as our tornado shelter. Greg will install approximately ¼” formed metal panels welded in place, before the sheetrock is installed. Its not a real big area but in the likely event (we live in Oklahoma) of a tornado, it will protect up to six people. Next up; finishing the great wall! Scraping, texturing, painting . . .after the disappointment of the wall mural not working out, it was way out of our price range, I found a gorgeous painting on Pinterest. It has a Monet-esque look about it, my favorite paintings are always Monet! I showed it to our oldest daughter Danielle, and she has agreed to paint it! She is a very talented artist, if I don’t say so myself! I am so thankful I didn’t go with the mural. I love this painting even more. I hope to find some vintage type chairs to place in front of the credenza, and add some décor, that is still in storage. We have gone from three units to one, so again, progress!
The Clubhouse with the large great room and limestone type floors is a little chilly in the winter! We turn the fireplace on every morning to keep the chill away, but smack dab in the middle of winter I can’t help but dream about our outside spaces! We plan on having an outdoor kitchen with a connecting patio. We have a large back porch, currently full of construction tools, and a sidewalk that winds around the house, we are thinking of taking the grassy area that’s right next to where the outdoor kitchen will be, and pour cement for a patio/eating area. We have plenty of grass elsewhere, currently filled with moles! Come Spring, Greg will be on the warpath! Most likely our outdoor kitchen will be a couple years down the road, but one can dream! Recently I watched a special on Palm Springs; in addition to craving a Date shake and maybe do a little shopping for some mid-century modern furniture, I want to play Foot Golf! Have you heard of this? It’s the sport where you kick a hole in one, I can get behind that, our property is literally situated on a (former) Golf Course, and since we want to pay homage to the old course I think Foot Golf would be a perfect fit, what a kick, HA! I haven’t run this idea past Greg yet, so we will see!
Plans for the rest of the day; prime and paint the area around the front and back doors, and the wall where the washer and dryer are currently located, finish up some writing, bake cookies for my son in laws birthday, and for my tinies, and maybe watch a little tv. Headed to Texas this weekend to visit family. Will talk soon!
