A Firm Foundation

The Foundation is poured and now we get the floor slab

Construction inside and out is moving along here at The Clubhouse; we are still working on our Master Bathroom, but we have moved a big step forward, Greg installed our bathtub! It feels so good to be able to take a bath again. The shower is mostly finished, we picked up the tile for the floor, shower, shower niche, and the wall next to the tub. We already have our cabinets, purchased at Home Depot, deeply discounted! They came with mirrors that I like but don’t love. We may add trim to them to make them a little larger, and to go with the style we are aiming for. I don’t know what that style exactly is, but I think I’ll call it Vintage Elegant Rustic, with a touch of Modern Glam! For example; we have barn doors going into the bathroom, with a Z detail, marble like white and gray floor tile, white subway tile in the shower, small diamond shaped tile with diamond centers in the niche, black and charcoal pebble flooring in the shower, LVT gray/blue wood plank, on the horizontal, on the wall next to the Vintage clawfoot tub, Navy blue cabinets with white tops, and all chrome fixtures, yikes! Sounds super busy, but when you see all the colors and samples together, I think it works, we will know for sure in a few days, keeping my fingers crossed. In other exciting news, we bought a new (to us) trailer! We’ve been looking for one for several months. Finally found one that passed my super picky, I mean, my detail oriented husband’s standards. I tease him about being a perfectionist, but I am thankful he is. Things last way longer when they are made and maintained well. For example; we have a chainsaw that is almost 40 years old and works! That may be partially because it was in storage a good chunk of that time. Greg has tools from his Grandpa and mine that he uses. We have a lawnmower that is over 20 years old… you get the idea. I think I was more excited about the trailer than Greg; we could now take some large items that were left behind at The Clubhouse, and were not usable, to the dump! Which means, I now have my dining room space!! I love Dining rooms, I don’t think everyone does, but to me they represent happy times, good food, family, and special occasions. Every Sunday, as a child, we would have a big meal after church in our dining room. My Mom always made a delicious roast of some sort, the meal was never rushed, and we all stayed at the table for hours, laughing and talking. I am anxious to get the Dining area painted, then get my table, chairs, and accessories out of storage! Hoping to have it all done before the holidays. I have prepped the walls for paint, cleaning them and taping around the windows and fireplace. I’m only painting the wall next to where the table will go, and around the fireplace. The fireplace hearth to the very top of the wood trim is over 11 feet tall and over 7 feet wide, with large windows on either side, so not a whole lot of area to paint. Our replacement windows should be here any day, I’m learning in Construction that a Date is usually approximate, give or take a couple days, or weeks! Moving to the outside; we have a foundation! It had to be timed with the weather, thankfully it cooperated. This may be a bit old fashioned and sentimental, pretty much describes me, but here goes: A big part of building anything, garages or relationships, is dependent on the foundation. You can differ greatly on all the finishes, add-ons, the fluff stuff, but having a firm foundation is critical. A lot of things go into it that you don’t see. The leveling of the ground, all the sand and rock, the deep footings to anchor the building, the concrete re-bar, then finally the cement is poured, giving you a firm foundation. When Greg and I have disagreements, and if you’ve been in a relationship longer than a few weeks, you will have disagreements. I used to say to Greg, “We are so different, how can this work?” He would remind me that, “Yes, we are very different, but our foundation is solid, built on our shared faith, our values, and our love.” It’s true. Thankful to our parents, Doug and Jeannie, and Dave and Daisy, who set the foundation for us, many years ago. Until next time!
