Made With Love

“A Kitchen is a living room you can cook in.” Christopher Peacock. That quote is so very true! The Kitchen has always been the heart of the home, and probably always will be, and we are well on our way to finishing up ours! Quick Re-cap: We have finished the pass thru from the kitchen to the pantry; removed the peninsula and cabinets to make room for the banquette;

Bye Bye Peninsula

Currently in the process of re-building and re-configuring the old cabinets, we were only able to use about half of the cabinets, so we found a nice used set on FB Marketplace, and we have just about finalized the layout of the new Island. We are still deciding between Navy blue or Black.

It will have storage on both sides, and a Baking center on one end with a hydraulic lift for my Kitchen- Aid, there are definite perks being married to a man who specializes in Hydraulics! We choose to not have upper cabinets, instead we will have a few Floating shelves on either side of the Range Hood, next on the list for Greg to build! For the floating shelves we are using a large beam that once held up the drop ceiling in the old utility room. Next, we move on to texturing and painting, and then… removing the old limestone type tiles in the kitchen, not an easy task. I think I have talked Greg into hiring that out, it is a difficult, back breaking type of job! We will replace the old tiles with wood plank flooring, carrying it into the pantry and mud room area. Then onto countertops, backsplash, and the smaller fun details. Speaking of, our beautiful matte gold pot filler finally arrived!

Pot Filler

We are still waiting on the matching knobs for our stove, the order has been pushed back four times, a fairly common occurrence lately. I’m fine with not having everything match, I like the look of mixed metals, and so far, have copper, gold, stainless steel, and chrome. I think it goes with the European Farmhouse feel of the clubhouse. The Kitchen planning/design/building has been over two years in the making. We’ve had setbacks and surprises, learned from our mistakes, and are trying to enjoy the process. I read somewhere that “Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” So much of the process has been behind the scenes, things that are behind walls and in areas that never get recognition. I am very thankful that Greg prioritizes those, because in reality, if he didn’t, we wouldn’t have a solid, well-built, functional kitchen, that is definitely made with love.
