Update

Doors, Floors, and More!

It’s been a month, or two, since I’ve updated. I think that’s a good thing, because I usually write when things are stressful! Although there have been a couple mishaps, specifically a fall or two from the scaffolding, at least it wasn’t too high and just a couple bruises, nothing a little Ibuprofen can’t handle! I also tend to procrastinate writing; I love it once I get going, but it’s that getting going that gets me! Instead of writing, I cleaned out the fridge, went shopping, “researched” home ideas on Pinterest, Facetimed the tinies… you get the idea!

A lot has been accomplished in the last couple months; it doesn’t always seem that way though, sometimes when Greg and I get a little down and think things are not progressing fast enough, we look back at where we started and realize we have made headway! The most progress has been in the Master Bath. A partial list since I last updated; finished installing, grouting, and sealing all the tile, on the floor, inside the shower, and on the wall behind the bathtub. Oops, just remembered we still have the tile backsplash to do! I think that’s an afternoon type job, not a whole weekend, hopefully. We (Greg) has textured and primed the walls and ceiling and should be applying paint later today! We decided to paint an accent color on the wall behind the bathtub. It’s Light French Grey. I love it. The rest of the walls and ceiling are the same as the other living area, Alabaster from Sherwin Williams. We wanted to keep it light in there, although the vanities are a rich Navy color, because there are no windows! I wanted one on the accent wall, but it is an exterior wall and is approximately 10-12 inches of stone and material to cut through. Greg likes a challenge, but he said not at this time.  About six months ago, we found a beautiful glass barn shower door with chrome hardware. Greg designed the shower around the door. The store said they always have it in stock so we decided to wait and pick it up when we were ready for it. Fast forward 6 months, we are ready for it, and surprise, they are sold out! Not expected to have any in for several months. So, a shower curtain it is! The curtain mostly covers the shower area ☹

When I was in Texas last month taking care of the Grandkids, Greg was here in Oklahoma, weathering a very cold storm front. We didn’t have a Master Door at that time, we had a cutout opening. We decided the door needed to be a custom size to fit the scale of the Great room. A regular size door looked out of place. Since we couldn’t decide what exactly to have built, or to build it ourselves, we did nothing! During that week, the temperature dropped to 20 something degrees, with a wind chill of -12. Greg decided quickly what kind of a door to build since he didn’t want to heat the whole house at night, just the bedroom.  He took the two doors that were left here, formerly the Locker Room Men and Women’s doors, and fashioned them into one great door! He used trim pieces from the built- in credenza that we partially dis-assembled and matched the door to the double front and back doors. He put Crown moulding on top, leftover from the former office door, and viola! And we are toasty warm at night. We are planning on barn doors to cover both the opening to the bathroom and to our closet. One is almost done, we just need to put the bottom anchor on, the soft close, sand it, putty the nail holes, and install the inside pull. It opens and closes easily for now, so yay for a door on the bathroom! The closet has been mostly done for a while, Greg did install a few additional shoe racks, this was after we brought home more boxes from storage and quickly realized there was not nearly enough shoe space! Just need the barn door put up, technically a closet doesn’t need a door, but we designed the bathroom and closet doors with a cool arrow that when both doors are open, looks great. We also brought back from storage an additional couch, our pub table with bar stools, plants, pictures, décor. It’s really beginning to feel like our home. Next on the agenda, after the bathroom details are finished, is tackling the Great wall! It is about 40’ long by 16’ high at the peak. That is the wall that has the large door to our bedroom. We need to remove the knockdown, blend the new wall with the old wall, repair the seam, then texture prime and paint the whole thing. On one side of the door we have the credenza, trying to think of ideas for what to put above. Awhile back I found some interesting antique doors that I thought would look good there, but after living in the space for awhile decided against it. Procrastination can be a good thing! I did find the most gorgeous Wallpaper/Mural of a picturesque countryside with all the colors I love, that would be perfect for that wall. I emailed the company back and forth, sent for a sample, which I loved, had it all planned out. We would frame the Mural so it would cover the seam and make it easier for Greg to blend the new texture to the old. They sent me an estimator calculator. Gulp. Maybe if we win the lottery. I was so sad. They were very kind and sent me suggestions for a lower price point mural company. Not sure what I’ll do there, back to Pinterest. On the other side of the Great wall, I am decorating it more casual, sort of a game room theme. We have the big tv centered on the wall, Greg says its not big enough lol, with all our old VHS Disney tapes. We still have our vhs/dvd player and the grandkids watch movies every time they visit. I have shelves with vintage games, Pictures of the grandkids, some Golfing memorabilia and a really fun black and white golfing picture of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. It was left here at the Clubhouse. Maybe someday we will find a pool table or an indoor putting green. It will all have to be taken down when we finish that wall but it works for now! We have family visiting for the holidays, we were hoping the addition would be finished enough that there would be additional bedrooms and bathrooms. Not sure that is going to happen in time. It’s family, we can all share a bathroom for a few days? They do have the endwall and most of the rafters up. The new roof to cover the clubhouse and the new addition should be going on soon. They are almost ready to take down one of the windows in the great room to make room for the stairway! That will be exciting. After that, we will take down the wall in the kitchen, where the sink is currently, to make room for an opening into the new pantry, utility room, and half bath. Its sort of confusing unless you can walk through it or read blueprints. The kitchen remodel will be significant but is last on the agenda. We are making it work for now; Greg repaired the dishwasher so no more dishpan hands! It’s the little things. At some point I might take a video. I’m trying to update the Blog with pictures instead of the blank squares that are currently there! It shouldn’t be that difficult but for some reason I am struggling with it. Hope you all have a fabulous holiday season, surrounded by those you love. Our whole family will be together. This Mama’s heart is happy. Talk to you next year 😊
