Update

Priming, Painting, Polishing, and a little PBS

Getting primed to paint!

Quickish update on progress on the clubhouse in the last few weeks. Inside; we picked up more of our furniture from Texas. I’m still struggling some with furniture placement. I love the big open concept room, but it is challenging trying to figure out where to place everything. The Dining room is partially divided from the rest of the great room by a credenza. It came with the clubhouse and is staying. We took out the other credenza to make room for our Master bedroom. It was so solidly built, it took Greg hours to remove it, he said there is no way we are taking out the other one. So, I have a built- in credenza in my Dining room! I love it. I have both Grandmothers tea sets in there, along with Bar ware and linens. And now I have a dining table, chairs, and some décor! It feels good to have at least one room mostly finished! I started priming the walls in the dining, fireplace, and entry area. Unfortunately, I am afraid of heights, so I have primed, and painted the bottom half, but have not mustered up the courage to prime and paint the upper half! The ceiling is close to 18’ high. Greg does not want to hire it out, and he doesn’t want to finish it until the master bath is completed. So… we wait. The Master bath is close to being finished (I may have my great room painted by Thanksgiving!) we need to grout the floor tile, install the large glass barn door for the shower, install the cabinets, texture and paint the walls. That sounds like quite a bit, but it should go quick. I haven’t helped too much in the bathroom, it takes a lot of precise work, not my strength, and a lot of math, also not my strength! I am proficient in clean up though! My job has been to sweep up debris, clean up grout, and polish tile and stone. Then repeat and repeat again! The one thing about construction is it always seems to take way longer than expected. And we are older. There are some nights where we may work for an hour and then say, “lets just watch tv and have some popcorn.” We have the desire but not always the energy! Speaking of tv, we finally hooked ours up, it sits on top of our coffee table for now, eventually it will go on the far large wall, also next in line to work on, after we finish the bathroom!  We have a total of 5 channels, woo! I don’t mind. Like most people, I think we had over 700 channels in our other homes. It felt like half the time was spent flipping through the 700 channels to maybe find something we sort of like. We now watch mostly PBS, no more flipping through all the channels, I love that it is calming and informative, and I get to watch Antique Roadshow! Eventually we will figure something else out. We have Amazon prime so we are able to watch a bigger variety on the tv in our bedroom, but we are usually asleep once we hit the pillow!

Moving to the outside; The framing for the garage is almost finished, next they will start on the upstairs framing. It has been fun to walk through the garage area, go through the door (the opening for the door) and into what will be our utility/mud room. Then walk through to the pantry and half bath. I looked at the blueprints soooo many times, until it was framed, I had a hard time visualizing it. There will eventually be an opening from the pantry into the kitchen, but that’s a project for another time, hopefully not too far down the road. The kitchen really does need re-doing but we are making it work for now. We had the Grandkids visit last weekend, they had so much fun riding the Go-Kart all over the property and riding their trikes and scooters all over, inside and outside. We are looking forward to when the upstairs bedrooms are finished so we will have room for family and friends to stay! For now, we are focusing on finishing the Master bath! Better get back to sealing the tile. Will update soon!
